The Perfect Combination

The Coffee & Chocolate route: hike a spectacular Inka Trail to reach coffee & cacao plantations in the Machu Picchu jungle. Walks are short and beautiful:
The key is experience. Harvesting coffee and cacao and participating in the whole process will give a new dimension to your visit to Machu Picchu.

4d/3n Program
Day 1 Cuzco (or Ollantaytambo) - Huayopata
AM Transfer Cuzco - Huayopata (5 hours from Cuzco), passing the Malaga Pass (4.300 masl) and from there down into the upper jungle (1.500 masl).
PM  Share the daily life of the host family, get to know their plantation with fruits, vegetables, cacao and coffee. Depending on the season we’ll participate in an agricultural activity, like harvesting fruits or coffee beans!
Night  Dinner with a local family in Huayopata, overnight stay in their private lodge with hot water (two triple rooms with shared bathroom)

Day 2 Huayopata - Huacayupana
AM  In the morning, we will go to a cacao farm to learn to make our own chocolate! The whole process from the fruit to the chocolate will be explained to us, and we will fully participate in it.
Afterwards, a ride of about one hour will take us to the beginning of a hike (beautiful 2,5-hour Inka trail option, or shorter and easier one-hour option), with beautiful flora, impressive views and quite astonishing depths. Finally, we’ll arrive in Huacayupana for a refreshing lemonade and lunch, offered by the host.
PM  In the afternoon, proud “cafetalero” will explain us all about the organic coffee process from the bean to the cup, and his life on this mountain ridge. In order to provide shadow to the coffee plantations, the coffee farmers grow other crops like bananas, citrus fruits, avocado and mango, aside from corn and beans.
Night  Share experiences host family, dinner and rest in their traditional lodge constructed with adobe but with private hot shower. (Two triple rooms with private bathrooms.)
