When most people think about Peru the first place they think of is Machu Picchu, and here is a picture of my wife and son there when he was little.  Most people will go to Cusco to acclimatise and visit the Sacred Valley.

So these show Cusco.

And this shows the way to Machu Picchu through the Sacred Valley.

and these show Chincheros Indian Market and Ollantaytambo Fortress in the Sacred Valley.
Now, the question is: Where would you like to go in Peru and how would you like us to help you make your choice?
My wife comes from Trujillo, so we are particularly familiar with North Peru, which is an area unfamiliar to most visitors to Peru, and I was involved in the production of the guide to North Peru. We lived in Huanchaco, almost on the beach, for several years before returning to England.
So we are going to show you around that area and should appreciate your feedback.

These are tortoras – reed fishing boats – on the beach at Huanchaco and the next post will take us around that fishing village and Trujillo.

Inca Water Festival

Inca Water Festival to be staged in Cusco region

A staging of ‘Qocha Raymi’ or Inca water worship ritual has been confirmed for September 24 at Urcos city’s lagoon, belonging to Quispicanchi province.
The venue, located an hour away from Cusco city by road, will host to over 450 actors, mostly locals. Performers will present the Inca ceremony’s 22nd edition, aimed to raise awareness on water preservation.
The environmental activity will kick off at 10 A.M., followed by province’s typical dances and Urcos Children Symphonic Orchestra.
Urcos Lagoon has been of utmost importance for locals since ancient times. Thus, the municipality aims to preserve water resource and prevent locals and visitors from polluting it.
Visitors are invited to enjoy the staging and tour Quispicanchi’s tourist attractions, the Andean route of baroque churches and the famous ‘Vinicunca’ [Rainbow Mountain].
